Don’t you hate it when the item you’ve been looking at online sells out before you hit “Add to Cart” or worse yet, when you’ve already added it to your cart and it sells out before you can complete your purchase! Believe me, I’ve been there too! Sometimes, women love it so much, they email us about when we will make more. I think because as a small business of locally handcrafted goods, they are hoping that’s an easy request. Problem is, as a small business, we can’t stock all the raw materials needed to be able to offer that option.
And since we are small, we have never made large quantities of our leather goods either. In fact, we used to only do one run of each color option. After a few years, we realized that’s not the best thing for our bottom line. Here we are spending lots of money on product shots, lifestyle images and then we just through them away?! So we updated our business model to make more of best sellers and mark down all the others to make room for new colors and styles eventually.
But sometimes, people get confused at the difference between locally handmade goods and small business goods locally made. Sounds confusing right?! But because we work with freelance sewers, we basically try to make the best use out of our time in the production studio. Simply meaning although we don’t do custom work or make one bag at a time, we try to keep our production costs down and make small amounts of each at one time.
So we wanted to give you a heads up on items that are about to sell out! You’re Welcome 😉
Of course, we’d love to have the best of both worlds and be able to make custom orders, that’s something we hope to be able to offer in the future. Because right now it’s basically a balancing act to say the least, between the variety of styles we make, adding and designing new styles, introducing new color ways in main popular styles and trying to keep best sellers in stock!
So although we will make more of SOLD OUT best sellers, right now on the calendar is more guitar style straps in May (since those were super popular), two new summer colors in June, finishing our small updates and offering more Edie Totes in July and introducing 4 new colors for Fall 2021. Of course, we’d love to make more of Woodstock and Wicked, since we can’t seem to keep those colors in stock and more Mini-Pamela (we are low in stock of all colors)! It’s always so tough to decide which to do first!
But at the same time it is so exciting to be back working on new things, discovering new colors and getting feedback directly from you! Our FB Live Happy Hours have been growing in numbers every week. And it’s not this huge sales pitch but just a fun conversation with fans. 🙂 If you haven’t been you really should join the fun, bring a glass of wine if you like and ask questions, tell stories. It’s all good!
