Instagram is obviously taking over the social media industry and has been for a long time. I remember it starting out as just a silly place to share your everyday doings. When I scroll back to my first posts, I get quite embarrassed at the strange things I decided to post. A chair in my doctors office? My Jamba Juice smoothie? Times have definitely changed.
We now use this media for our favorite pictures of ourselves, friends, family and travel. Companies, such as Brynn Capella, use it to showcase their brand and give a picture or aesthetic for their customers. Due to this high influx of users and popularity, Instagram is always evolving.
The newest update is Instagram TV or IGTV. No, this is not a new television channel ripping off HGTV, but it is a platform for long videos that you access via your Instagram app. The length of video is the importance because on a regular feed post videos can only be up to one minute. The idea of this is similar to YouTube, where users can do make up tutorials or store tours, and so much more.
“We’ve made it simple, too. Just like turning on the TV, IGTV starts playing as soon as you open the app. You don’t have to search to start watching content from people you already follow on Instagram and others you might like based on your interests. You can swipe up to discover more — switch between “For You,” “Following,” “Popular” and “Continue Watching.” You can also like, comment and send videos to friends in Direct,” said by the founder and CEO,Kevin Systrom in an article introducing the new feature.
The quality of it just being able to be accessed right as you enter the app without having to fully search is what sets this apart from Youtube or other video sharing medias. It allows for followers not only to see your favorite pictures or short daily stories, but to really understand some of your life and passions.
Video is the best way to show emotion and brand style to your customer. Here at Brynn Capella we have been making videos one of our top priorities. Starting off with short clips with us interns using the bags in our daily life, to how a bag works and the ins and outs of the designing processes. This will allow our customers to have an understanding of what goes into the making and selling of our bags (and see the fun we have using them).
I am excited to utilize my video editing skills and start creating videos to put up on IGTV. I am very interested to see how the Instagram community reacts to the update and how often it will be used. Keep a look out for some videos from us!
